The Reformer
Despite the somewhat medieval name, the Pilates reformer is actually an amazingly elegant machine originally designed for rehabilitative work. The reformer provides finely tuned exercise resistance that allows one to work very precisely to develop good alignment, core strength, and flexibility.
The reformer is a piece of resistance exercise equipment designed by Joseph Pilates. It consists of a platform that moves back and forth along a carriage. Resistance is provided by the exerciser's body weight and by springs attached to the carriage and platform.
My clients comment that they do not get the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)as they do in traditional resistance training. I explain that while you are building muscle strength you are also stretching those muscles at the same time = longer, leaner muscles with less pain.
The new reformer has arrived! A beautiful new Balanced Body Clinical Reformer facilitates safe and rapid rehabilitation of orthopedic, neurologic and chronic pain conditions. The Clinical Reformer combines the most innovative Footbar and Springbar systems available. The revolutionary Infinity Footbar® and Revo Springbar systems give you more than 160 adjustable, locking positions. This allows Help Me Rhonda to accommodate people of virtually any height and level of ability, including children. Used by clinicians in private practice, rehabilitation facilities and hospitals worldwide.
